I have a garden!

We are buying a house on 1/3 of an acre outside San Diego. It has a greenhouse and really nice garden area. The previous owner was a big gardener - the house has lots of flowers and edible plants. We have grapefruit, oranges, olives and guava. And that is just the edible trees. Super excited to see what is there.

We have so much work to do on the house that we are not going to be able to do a garden this year - just no time. We will probably plant some easy high yield plants like tomatoes, but have to wait on getting a real garden.

I'm new to the digging in the dirt thing so I will be on here a lot asking questions!

That's awesome!  Congrats on the new house!  I'm totally jealous about the greenhouse.  How cool!

That sounds amazing!  I am jealous!  But I would have no idea how to garden in southern California  :)  And what would you grow in a greenhouse in southern california?  It's already hot outside, isn't it?  I'm a Minnesota gardener & I could definitely use a greenhouse here  :)

Yeah, I am not sure about the greenhouse either. It does not freeze here but it gets a little cold so maybe this will enable us to group year round stuff. I don't know. So overwhelmed by this garden!

It sounds like you have not yet moved in? Could you ask the previous owner to do a walkthrough of the garden, or write down as much info as he/she can about the garden? That would be so useful for your first couple years, and I think the previous owner would be happy to know that the new owners will be continuing to care for the garden they've clearly put a lot of work into. Just don't mention changes you might be planning to make to them - that'd be heartbreaking. ;)
