New Here! - and a question...

Hi everyone! My family and I have been trying to do the TF thing for a few months now. My husband is completely in love with the Nourishing Traditions cook book (he's the one with the kitchen skills lol) and I am learning bit by bit and love it so far! I fail at times to stick with it...I grew up in a home that ate a LOT of processed foods...but I really hope to be able to better my cooking skills and be 100% TF in the near future.

Question: Does anyone here who does TF have a thyroid disorder? How about ADD? Did switching to a TF diet help the symptoms? I have both and I really wonder if my intake of all the processed foods growing up caused the problem...and if becoming 100% TF (or perhaps trying the GAPS diet) would help alleviate the symptoms.

If you have thyroid issues, you might want to look into your iodine.  I know that not enough iodine, or the wrong types of iodine can cause or exacerbate thyroid problems. Somewhere around, there is a "iodine thread" (a search should find it) with an amazing amount of information about iodine on it.

I don't have much experience with ADD (well, actually I think I got an ADD diagnoses at one point, but it was of the hey, this kid is having troubles in school, lets slap labels on her rather than figure out what's going on. That way, rather than dealing with her crappy home life, we can drug her. Easy! type of crap diagnoses.).

Eating TF should certainly help ADD issues. The Feingold Diet almost always helps ADD and TF eliminates most of the same preservatives that Feingold does.
My thyroid problems have improved, but I have also started supplemental iodine as well as porcine thyroid, so I think that's the main reason for improvement.

But, really, anytime you stop eating fake food and start eating real food, your body will thank you.

Maglet - I heard it can be harder for people who don't live near the ocean (I'm from Minnesota) to get an adequate amount of iodine so I will definatly look into it, thanks!

BeagleMommy - I have heard good things about the feingold diet - I also love that are out there fighting against the use of fake dyes in our food (eww petroleum products!). I am trying reeeally hard to kick the cravings for fake stuff and to cook only TF and from scratch. My crock pot is becoming my best friend :).
