Memory Issues & Shaking

I had ear surgery about 3.5 weeks ago. I noticed within a week afterwards that I was shaking and twitching more than usual. I also had big memory lapses. I could not remember something 5 minutes later, and I had trouble remembering my anniversary date, etc. I still am having these issues, though a little less. I am shaking more now, though. I keep having muscle spasms and my twitching in my hands. I'm so shaky that I couldn't help my 6 year old with her puzzle. I thought at first it was my hydrocodone, then possibly withdrawal from my low dose of hydrocodone. But it's been over a week without any and it seems to have worsened. I'm terrified it's something like MS. I've had issues with random feelings of heaviness & numbness in my arms before, though not for awhile.

I go to the doctor tomorrow about a possibly injured rib or gallbladder problem, and I figured I should ask about this, too. Should I ask for a MRI? Blood tests? I have a history of thyroid problems, but it's been resolved for 7 years and my last tests were normal. Maybe a TSH and Vitamin B12 and D levels tested? I don't want to come off sounding like a hypochondriac. I have had so many crazy health issues in my life that asking about another that pops up gives me anxiety. My anxiety is already high, but it's never resulted in shaking. It's so bad I have trouble typing or reading a book. I would say it's blood sugar, because mine gets low sometimes, but it's pretty much through the day, even after eating 3 big Pecan Tassies. Is there anything in specific I should ask to have tested? TIA!

Hi KittyWitty,

First of all, take a deep breath - your anxiety may not be the only reason this is happening, but being very anxious may not be helping. Try to do something fun and relaxing that doesn't trigger your shaking - listening to music, or watching your kids play. Make sure to eat nutritious meals and to eat protein at every meal, to minimize hypoglycemic episodes.

At the doctor's tomorrow, I would probably not ask for certain tests, but I would definitely list all of the things that you just wrote here. Discuss with your doctor the frequency of these symptoms, when they began and when they got worse, what types of activities/situations trigger them, and what your worries are. If you are afraid that you won't remember, then you can bring a copy of your post with you to remind yourself of all these things.

Good luck!

Apparently it was a reaction of some sort to Cipro I was taking for a UTI. I still have some, but it's going away. I'm not going to be taking Cipro again!

cipro made me jump up in the middle of the night and run for the front door where I would then start thinking logically and wander back to bed but still scary. I cannot tolerate it at all

I believe Cipro is one of those antibiotics with fluoride as a main ingredient. Could be a reaction to its toxicity.
