typical milestones

I work in early childhood, but I have always worked with kids on the low side of typical so my judgment of typically developing kids is way off.. I'm impressed if a 4 year old knows his colors!
I have no one to bounce this off IRL and I'm concerned with sounding like one of those "My kid is a super genius" threads.. so bear with me. some are things where I think he is ahead, some are things I think he is behind.

can you just tell me if these sound like typical, average 2 year old things? He is currently just over 26 months old.

*he had well over 300 words before his second birthday- I have no estimation for his current vocab, but it is much larger than that, probably around 1000.

*At 26 months he routinely speaks in 5 or 6 word sentences.

*he uses some pronouns correctly, but often confuses male vs female

*he uses his own name interchangeably with pronouns like me or I

*he knew 8 colors before 2, and now he knows 11 (both receptive and expressive)

*he can count to 11, sometimes higher

*he recognizes several letters

*he consistently recognizes a few sight words

*he doesn't draw things that have recognizable shapes, but he can go back to a "drawing" weeks later and remember what it was

*he can't put on any of his clothes by himself

I know kids develop at their own pace and yadda yadda.. I give the schpiel to parents all the time. Just wanting to hear what other kids his age are doing. thanks!

can you just tell me if these sound like typical, average 2 year old things? He is currently just over 26 months old.  My DD is about to turn 2 in a few days but I can try to answer it for her, maybe it will help you?

*he had well over 300 words before his second birthday- I have no estimation for his current vocab, but it is much larger than that, probably around 1000.  I think DD has well over 300 words right now before her 2nd birthday too.

*At 26 months he routinely speaks in 5 or 6 word sentences.  DD started to talk in sentences too.  The other day she was nursing and said "Mommy, other side now, this side milk no come out."

*he uses some pronouns correctly, but often confuses male vs female  DD doesn't use pronouns yet at this age.

*he uses his own name interchangeably with pronouns like me or I  Not yet at this age.

*he knew 8 colors before 2, and now he knows 11 (both receptive and expressive)  DD knows about 6 colors at this point.

*he can count to 11, sometimes higher  DD can count to 10 at this point.

*he recognizes several letters  Not yet

*he consistently recognizes a few sight words  If I read to her she can recognize a certain word on a page.

*he doesn't draw things that have recognizable shapes, but he can go back to a "drawing" weeks later and remember what it was  Same with DD, and she is starting to draw recognizable shapes like "mountains" and circles.

*he can't put on any of his clothes by himself  She dresses herself but sometimes get tangled.

My DD is like your LO, she seems "advanced" in some ways especially language, but she can't figure out simple things like how to pedal her tricycle...I think both of our kids are "normal" in their own ways!

My DS is the exact same age...

*he had well over 300 words before his second birthday- I have no estimation for his current vocab, but it is much larger than that, probably around 1000.
DS has thousands of words, way too many to count (probably reached 1000 around 16-18mos)

*At 26 months he routinely speaks in 5 or 6 word sentences.
DS too... most of his speech is 5-7 word sentences with lots of longer sentences & a few 1-2 word demands thrown in lol.gif

*he uses some pronouns correctly, but often confuses male vs female
*he uses his own name interchangeably with pronouns like me or I
DS is good with male/female etc. but sometimes interchanges "I" and "you" or refers to himself by name

*he knew 8 colors before 2, and now he knows 11 (both receptive and expressive)
I don't know how many colors DS knows, probably 10 or 20?

*he can count to 11, sometimes higher
DS too, though he sometimes gets the numbers out of order

*he recognizes several letters
Same here

*he consistently recognizes a few sight words
No idea if DS has any sight words, I'm guessing not. He can 'read' but it's usually related to pictoral clues or memorization.

*he doesn't draw things that have recognizable shapes, but he can go back to a "drawing" weeks later and remember what it was
Not sure, he 'draws' certain things (mostly unrecognizable to me except moons, circles, spirals, etc.) but I don't think he's ever revisited a drawing like that so I don't know

*he can't put on any of his clothes by himself
He can put on most of his clothes, hats and boots are easy but shirts and socks are a struggle and pants/shoes/underwear/coat are somewhere in the middle

ETA: I also think a lot of the things that might lead you to believe he is 'advanced' aren't as easily quantifiable as the above... I do think my DS is advanced in some areas but it's hard to describe because it has more to do with his way of thinking than any particular quantifiable milestones, you know? So just because other kids can or can't do certain things at this age, doesn't necessarily mean your DS is or isn't advanced. Haha don't know if that made any sense at all...

Our kids are a day apart! You pretty much described DD. Huge vocabulary (and never stops talking), uses pronouns correctly most of the time, counts to 13-14 correctly but keeps going with other numbers out of order.  She doesn't know sight words but recognizes some letters and sings the alphabet correctly. She draws circles but not other shapes. When she draws she'll tell me her scribbles are various things like birds, Mama belugas, pretty flowers, etc..

I think he sounds pretty typical with a bit of an advanced vocab.

Thanks everyone! just what I was hoping to hear!

Sounds within range to me, maybe a little advanced because of the the sight words. I am guessing that knowing sight words means that he also recognizes all of his alphabet.
