Cloth diapering when LO hates being wet and soiled...and sleeping

Have any of you run into trouble with cloth diapering at night and during naps when the LO hates to be wet or soiled? It seems to wake her up.  I then have trouble getting her back to sleep...more during the day than night.  I am currently using a diaper service and I am, therefore, only using prefolds.  I am hoping that when I can get her into pocket diapers that she wont feel them as much.  I have used disposables when we have gone away and she seems to prefer them and will sleep a little longer.  To be fair, she is only 9 weeks old.  It's really hard to tell if she is sleeping better because of the diaper or because...she is just sleeping better.  I am thinking of giving up the service sooner than what is currently ordered since it really is just as easy to wash them ourselves.  This is our second child so laundering the diapers is second nature.  I do like the convenience of the service but I hate to use our pocket diapers in lieu of the prefolds when they are already paid for.

Regardless, even when the service is done and we venture into the other diapers, I am afraid that she will be sensitive to them as well.  If I need to purchase something else to try, I would like to be prepared.  Any suggestions?

Have you tried a fleece liner? Just cut a piece and stick it next to baby's skin, it should help keep her feeling dry.

I agree with the pp that a fleece liner may help, and the pockets you have might also work better for her.  You could always stuff the pockets with your diaper service prefolds?  You'd still have to wash the shells, but that is quicker and easier since they dry so fast.

Some babies are very sensitive to being wet, so changing a lot (at that age, she is probably peeing evey 30-45 minutes), maybe looking into EC if that is something that you are interested in.

We had this exact same problem. We couldn't even CD until about 6 weeks in because DD wouldn't sleep AT ALL if she was in cloth. One day she just stopped minding feeling wet. So weird. And we don't change her at night so we switched to the Flip system at night. I use the Flip insert and a BG insert and a fleece liner on top, just to make sure she can't feel any wetness all night long. Good luck. You might also get more responses in the CD section.

Yep fleece liners are the way to go. Here is a great summary from someone on diaperswappers:

"Fleece does create a stay-dry effect (why some pockets are made with microfleece inner, which is much thinner than regular fleece), some can use a fleece liner on top of a cotton diaper (prefold, fitted or flat) so baby feels dryer.

It can be cut up with a pair of scissors to fit the exact width and length you want. Fleece doesn't fray when cut so it doesn't need to be sewn on the edges so that's why its super easy to work with.

A thinner fleece works better as a liner because pee will soak right through it into the diaper, a thick cut of fleece will cause repelling (that's why thicker fleece makes great diaper covers!).

Fleece liners are also "poo catchers" - and the nature of the fabric makes it really easy to get poo off, it slides right off and isn't "sticky".

I usually cut mine into long rectangular strips Bummis makes some (1$ each you can make your own for much cheaper) that are 12" x 5" you can see what they look like on this website: http://nickisdiapers.com/catalog.php?category=1517

But there are some you can buy (or make though I'm not that crafty) that are more contoured shape and cover more of the prefold up top - like on this website (75¢ each pretty reasonable to me)

hope this helps!
