NuvaRing - Question about coming off before TTC

My doctor recommended that I come off of my hormonal birth control for two months and use condoms to prevent before actually starting to try to have a baby, because the lining of the uterus is thinner when you're on birth control.  While I understand that everyone's different, our brothers, sisters, and parents have all successfully conceived within the first three months of trying to have a baby, and I'm kind of worried that if we have a condom malfunction the pregnancy might not succeed - should I be worried, maybe track when I'm going to ovulate and just avoid intimacy during those few days?

My doc told me the same thing, but there seems to be medical-oriented advice to the contrary. Given that it seems to be opinion, not solid medical agreement, I'd guess you will be fine following your doctor's advice and using the condoms. If you slip up I assume the risk wouldn't be *too* bad!

I wish Google Scholar would give me real research on the topic, but I'm not getting the right keywords. :-/ Anecdotally, I have a couple friends who have happy healthy babies, one while she was ON NuvaRing, the other the cycle after.

I've heard the same thing about Mirena. It's an IUD versus the ring, but also hormonal. With the Mirena, part of how it works is making the lining of the uterus not build up. Mirena says that you can TTC right after, but there's a lot of anecdotal evidence of women having m/c when they conceive right after.

Two things, First, I was on Nuvaring for 3 years, my first cycle after it was one of the worst cycles I've had, my hormones were crazy and I had the worst faux-pregnancy symptoms even though we were TTA. So if you do TTC or TTA, just beware that your body may make you feel pregnant even if you aren't. Second, a lot of fertility clinics will put you on hormonal BCP to kick your normal hormones into gear when you come off it, so avoiding for 2 months just doesn't make sense as far as that is concerned. Also, there is a chance that you will miscarry any pregnancy, so BC or no BC, that is always a risk. Good Luck!
