Seat belt tightener?

Anyone try this seat belt tightener http://www.amazon.com/Sunshine-Kids-10001-Mighty-Tite/dp/B000056JHP ?

My friends have, it, they love it. The reviews seem pretty good, but after watching a youtube video on aftermarket items, they mentioned things like:

1) you could tighten it so much that you could actually shred your seatbelt

and

2) in an accident, it could snap off and fly around in the car and hit someone.

Want to hear what the consensus is in this forum. You ladies always have such useful things to say!

It is NOT SAFE to use, it works by taking the 'streach' out of the seatbelt webbing, which is very dangerous (imagine jumping off a cliff, you would prefer a bungee cord vs a rope).   They damage the seatbelt.

You are also right in that it could be a projectile, or tear up the seatbelts.

You should be able to get your carseat tight without adding anything to it, if not, you may need to see a carseat tech for help, and if that still doesnt work, that carseat may be incompatible with that vehicle.

So yeah, do not use one!  And if anyone you know has used one, their seatbelts need to be replaced.

I agree.  Please don't consider using one of these.
