Looking for a holistic/biological dentist in Chicago or suburbs

I'm finally ready to get the silver fillings in my mouth removed. I understand that correct protocol is essential, both for removal of the fillings and for detoxing the heavy metals from the body afterward. I would like to find a dentist in the Chicago area who is both a skilled technician, and well-versed in correct protocol for removing amalgams. So many dentists advertise as 'holistic,' but that word is unclear and without a personal recommendation I feel as though I'm just throwing darts on the wall to choose.

I also need to consider the effects of amalgam removal on future pregnancies.

Thanks.

My husband and I both go to Dr. Alla Aver in Glenview and my husband has had several mercury fillings removed/replaced by her. Here is her website: http://www.glenviewsmiles.com/

Thank you for your reply! I assume you've had good experiences with Dr. Aver? Would you mind telling me what particularly you liked (or disliked) about her?

Thanks again. This is a big help.

Yes, I've had good experiences with her.. I've only seen her a total of three times but I did see her throughout my pregnancy. While I was pregnant she, obviously, skipped x-rays and also gave me some good ideas for natural mouthwashes for my inflammed gums from the pregnancy (she had me rinse with folic acid, which did help). My husband has seen her a lot more since he had all those fillings removed. She always had him take vitamin c, charcoal and cilantro chloera before, during, and after for detox. She has three young kids of her own so she is good with pregnancy knowledge. She seems pretty natural minded overall. Sorry if my response skips around a bit. I wrote it a little at a time today when I had a few minutes here and there. Hope this helps. Any specific questions about her?

Thanks again for your help!

I keep hearing horror stories of people made more sick by silver filling removal--and I wondered how your husband felt after Dr. Aver removed his. Did he feel well protected during the process, and supported during any follow-up? Did he have any health repercussions from the removal process? Was Dr. Aver responsive to any concerns that he had--or that you had, for that matter?

Again, thanks for your time and input!

He did not have any health repercussions what so ever during the removal process and I do think he felt supported during and after the process (and my husband is the kind of person who asks a ton of questions to be sure he knows what is going on). He had three or four done with her and did them one at a time so I don't think he would have gone back if he didn't like how things were done. He had an issue with soreness once but that was because his filings were SO deep. One was a border line root canal but I think she was able to remove and refill it without resorting to that. I know there are two types fillings depending how big/deep the filling is...one was a bpa free resin and the other was porcelain, which is for deeper cavities. The porcelain is a two step process and more expensive. Dr Aver always seemed very responsive in general and was always very responsive with any concerns he had. The one time he was sore for a few days she had him come back in so she could take a look at it and make sure everything was ok, which it was. It was just sore from having anything done to it because it was such a deep filling and the soreness did go away in a couple days.
