TTC while nursing

We are thinking about starting to TTC. DD is 16 months and still nurses very frequently, including at night. Probably 8-12 times in 24 hours. For those of you who were TTC while breastfeeding, how long did you have to try before you got a BFP?

I am also a little concerned about getting pregnant, because DD is still so dependent on nursing. I'd like to nurse through pregnancy and possibly tandem nurse. What was your experience with this?

With my first who nursed quite frequently until she was two, my cycles took about that same amount of time to regulate and return to fertile.  I was getting AF since 8 months pp, but my LP was not of a fertile length.  Once she nightweaned at age 2 and then started decreasing her nursing sessions, my LP shot back up and I m/c once and then conceived 2 cycles later.

With my second, AF returned a little later- 12 months pp- but they were immediately fertile as I got a shocking BFP just one cycle later.  We were not at all trying as this is not child spacing that I would choose.  Ds is 15 months and I am in the throws of m/s, which he does not understand.  He wants to nurse all the time and let me tell you, it is SO SO painful.  So painful that I want to wean, but the thought of weaning him when he's not at all ready makes me want to cry.  I think that my milk supply has reduced slightly, but nothing serious yet, though I hear it can happen slowly over the pregnancy.  For me, that would be okay, b/c it might encourage him to wean gradually before the new baby comes.  Otherwise I'll have to consider tandem nursing!

Good luck with your decision!
