what are possible reasons for a larger than normal uterus?

I am almost 13 wks pg and had my first mw appt last sat. When she felt my uterus I could tell she was quite shocked how large it was. She didn't say how much bigger it was than it should be. I had a u/s at 8 wks that showed only 1 baby in there. What are the other causes of a larger than normal uterus. It feels like it is already higher than it was on sat. This is my 9th pg in 9 yrs and my 3rd this year so I figure that is what it is but was wondering if there were any other possible causes or concerns.

Thanks wise mamas!

many, many mamas in my ddc - including myself - were measuring ahead in the late 1st/early 2nd tri for no reason whatsoever.

wasn't a full bladder or bowel as i empty them constantly ;) and my uterus always feels really big. Must just be bcs I have been pg so much but my 7 th pg my mw said it was large but to be expected. This time she felt it and her eyes about popped out of her head. I said oh it is prob big bcs of how many times I have been pg and she said well, that is a possibility but it is pretty big. So I will talk with her when she comes sat. I just want to make sure there isn't anything I should be concerned about.

Thanks ladies.

Funny, I had the same experience with my MW at 13 weeks, too! She quizzed me on my dates, but I'm 100% sure on them. This is my 6th baby, I'm sure that's why my uterus is so high. Of course, my MW still made me a *little* nervous & I'm anxious for my u/s to be sure it's just one, but I honestly don't suspect twins. It's just a multiparous thing. I'm 16 weeks now & my fundus us at my navel.

Mine is at my naval too (or just slightly below it). I am 13 wks. I am going to talk with her a bit more tomorrow when she comes over for the hb check. It is probably just the fact that I have had so many pregnancies so close together.

I've been measuring larger than usual throughout this pg. I'm 24w now. My MW wasn't concerned when I asked her why. She said it's to be expected after as mant times as I've been pgs, 10.

This is some years ago, and probably doesn't apply to any of you, but:

Although I had only had one child at that point, my midwife said something similar about me measuring big because I'd had a large  (10 lb)  baby before... I was thinking twins but my midwife ruled that out in the blink of an eye--no worries at all.  I 100% believed her.  Therefore I later had surprise-at-birth twins.  ...just sayin'.
