Do Your Chickens Quiet Down When You Come Near

You know how if your kids have a fight or make noise, and the parents come investigate, they quiet right down?  My chickens seem to do this.  They put up the "chicken alarm" and when I come out to check on them they go all quiet.  Then they start up again once I'm satisfied they're OK and I've left.  Anyone else experienced this?

I haven't.  My chickens get all clucky and ambush us when we come around......they're looking for treats.  Our yours free range?

Yeah, very free range.  All up and down the field and in the bushes.  They do this behavior the most in the early morning soon after leaving the coop.
