Any suggestins for getting the damp smell out of a dresser?

I bought a used dresser for my closet, but it has that "basement" smell.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?  I put a damp-rid packet it in, but would like something to work faster.

We've been enjoying some sun in the northeast lately. Is there any way you could get that dresser out for a 6 hour soak in the sun with the drawers open or even fully removed so they can get full sun exposure too? I think that would be the single most effective method you could do. Sunlight is just terrific at beating off odors, plus the breeze won't hurt either.

I like the idea of sunlight. Also, charcoal in an open paper bag will get rid of odors, though I'm not sure how long it will take.

Shannon Lush recommends 6 sticks of chalk to absorb any moisture (when they look damp put them in the sun to dry and reuse) and an open packet of loose-leaf tea to get rid of the smell (from the book Spotless 2 by Shannon Lush and Jennifer Flemming.
