Mama's taking Lugol's Iodine supplimentation- Have questions...

I want to suppliment iodine. I have Lugol's 2% solution. What would my dosage be, 26 wks pregnant and do I really need to consult a "doctor" before adding this as just a suppliment, not in a high dose? Also wondering if I should calculate in that my Rainbow Light prenatal has 150 mcg of iodine in it already...

And if you have the knowledge~ what would dosages be for a 3 and 6 year old?

Thanks so much in advance~

How many of your midwives/ob's are suggesting this to you (out of curiosity?)...

I wish I could be more helpful & provide great links. My husband did the research for us & came up with dosages for our family. So, I can tell you what we take, but hopefully you will be able to find those same sites he found to be sure.

There's 150mcg of potassium iodide in my prenatals (I'm 16 wks along). I take an additional 100mcg per day. It's not Lugol's brand, though. My 3 and 5 yr olds each take 100 mcg per day. And my 18 month old gets 50mcg. We have capsules that I open up & I pour the powder into applesauce for the kids. The powder has no flavor.

My MW didn't say the amount I'm taking is too much, she just said she'd rather I was eating seaweed foods because she thinks it's assimilated better.  They did send out an email to all their clients recommending they all up their iodine containing foods.

Thanks kindly , that is similar to what my math suggested. My midwife is very food nutrition based as well, but considering those sea based foods alarms me with the amount of sad that is spilling into the ocean and water. Can I ask what brand you are using and the strength?

Thanks for your reply, happy pregnancy!

IS anyone taking Chlorella?

My nutritionist has me on Iodine to help strengthen my thyroid.  He says that 150mcg isn't nearly enough for any adult.  I'm taking a supplement that gives me 2000% of the rda.  It's a pill and not in liquid form.  I try to add Dulce to my salads when possible and Nori too.

I take a pill of kelp that has about 400mcg of iodine plus the 150 mcg in my prenatal.
