Spanish for a non-reader

Ds, almost 5, really wants to learn Spanish, a lot of his friends speak it at home and it around us everyday. Most of the learning language stuff I see out there is for kids who can already read a little. I'm not looking necessarily for curriculum but for ideas, or resources for teaching Spanish. I have a a fairly basic grasp of the language from living and working in Spanish speaking communities for years, but it's pretty spotty (and mixed with Navajo). What has worked for you guys?

Well, we use Rosetta Stone and reading definitely helps.  But it would be possible to start it if you skipped the reading and writing lessons, and he could come back and do those later.
