Raw milk

We've been buying raw milk from a local farm.  It's not too expensive, less than 4 dollars for a large container.  Problem is, it goes bad in about three days so we never finish it in time.  Is this usually the time limit for raw milk?

That's really fast.  I've had raw milk that tasted sweet two weeks out, though that was stored in a commercial fridge. In a home fridge, I'd say about a week is usually tops (but I don't chill it the 15 minutes home from work).  If you are keeping it on ice in a cooler all the way home, and then in the back of your quite cold fridge, talk to your source about getting it the day it's milked, or whether they are keeping things clean enough or chilling it fast enough. 3 days is WAY too fast.

I agree, three days is pretty quick.  Do you keep it in the coldest part of your fridge (not on the door)?

If you don't want it to go to waste you could cook with the milk that may seem not as sweet to you anymore.  I would try some tapioca or custard pudding, or scramble it in with eggs.

our milk lasts about a week opened. in our fridge. up to two weeks unopened... the one time it went bad more quickly was because the farmer's fridge went out and it did not get cold enough quick enough.

also, I've read that since the milk is not pasteurized, it doesn't go rotten, rather, it goes sour...and you can then use the milk for baking (pretty much how you would use buttermilk...) - I used it for baking pancakes and it was yum :)

The only time ive had that problem, the milk had been mis-handled. Even then it wasnt 3 days, it still lasted almost a week.

My farm fresh raw milk that i picked up last Wednesday was still nice and sweet yesterday, 8 days later, when i made tapioca out of it.
