Hi! Wondering how soon after your 3-6 month old baby wakes up from night sleep do they take their morning or first nap of the day?

I'm going to try a poll! Wish me luck...

At three months it was about 1.5 hours, as we got to 6 months it was more often 2 hours.  Hope that helps!

at 5 months it is about 1-2 hours.. it has been about 1 hour for a loooong time, but is slowly getting longer!

DD is just under 3 months but it's somewhere between 1.5 and 2 hours... she wakes around 6:30 with the whole fam and takes her first nap between 8 and 8:30.

At 3- 6 months old, my dd could barely stay awake 1 hour before needing her first nap!!! At 3 months it was probably closer to 45 min.

Heck...at 7.5 months old, she BARELY can stay awake 1.5 hours after waking...and that's me pushing it!!

But as you will see....the range of normal is pretty wide...some kids require more sleep...some less!

My daughter's older than that now, but at that age, it was 1-1.5 hours, never any more. It took her until well over 6 months old, more like 9, to go more than 2 hours. Even now at a year old, it's sometimes a stretch to keep her up for 3 hours, but we do it anyway, so that she takes one long nap and actually sleeps at night!

When my son was 3-4 months, it was often only 1 hour, sometimes rarely 1.5 hours.

Closer to 6 months, he was able to stay up 1.5 hours. It wasn't until he was 7 months old that he could stay up 2 hours.

I saw the 2-3-4 schedule somewhere and it is brilliant and works for us.  First nap is 2 hours after waking, second nap 3 hours after waking from first, and bedtime 4 hours later.

So

Up at 7

Nap at 9

Up at 10:30

Nap at 1:30

Up at 3

Bed at 7

Not that we are precisely on that schedule every day but it's such a helpful baseline for me.

DD 7.5 months now but still goes down about 2 hours after wake up. been that way from about 4 months

Our day generally is something like this at least for a little bit but it does change sometimes from day to day. But like clockwork her first nap is about 2 hours after wake up.

700 wake up

9 nap anywhere from 1 to 2 hours long

anywhere from 130-230 she goes down for an afternoon nap anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours long

cat nap (20mins) around 530 but this is slowly going out the window it appears

bedtime anywhere from 730-830 on average between 8-830

I have been noticing that she is ready around 730 more and more each day so probably gonna start shooting for that one soon.

At 3-6 months Daniel was napping at around 1.5-2 hours after wake up. At 9 months, Daniel now naps between 2-3 hours after wake up. At 3-6 months, he still needed a nap after 2 hours of wakefulness, which made SUCH a huge difference in our sleeping. One thing that also has made a big difference for us in terms of nighttime sleep is letting him nap no longer than 1.5 hours a time. Basically, I read that if a baby is sleeping more than that per nap, they're probably overtired, and you want to encourage them to make up that sleep at night, not during the day. The naps are basically a rest from the stimulation of the day, they shouldn't be real "sleep." Once we started "limiting" his daytime sleep (at this point he still slept twice a day so he's still getting 3 hours of day sleep) he started to sleep through the night easily for 10-12 hours. So even by limiting his sleep, he got between 13-15 hours of sleep a day.

It really makes sense to me because I know that if I take too long of a nap during the day I don't sleep well at night.
