Confused about bleeding a week and a half after my period.

It has been 24 days since I last ovulated and about a week and a half since my period ended.  I am still nursing and I was expecting ovulation to happen in the next couple of days but I have no signs of it yet.  My last period was about half as heavy as usual but way too heavy still to have been implantation bleeding.  My husband and I had sex last night and we were not rough, nor did I have any bleeding at the time.  Tonight I noticed that I was having some spotting, more than from damaged vaginal tissues but not period heavy.  I would suspect ovulation bleeding except that my cervix is low and closed with tacky discharge, plus it seemed like more than that as well.  This is a new phenomenon for me and it has me confused.  I have a cople possible PG symptoms but you know how iffy that can be.  Slightley sore heavy breasts but I am still nursing a 20 month old who frequently pinches nipples, I have also been tmuch more moody but any hormonal imbalance could explain that. I guess I will test in the morning to be sure and then I'll check on here for info.  Thanks

:(  I tested and I am not pregnant.  After further reading, I guess it could be pre-ovulation bleeding based on the amount but it still doesn't make much since to me when I have no other signs of fertility right now . .

Normal spotting can be caused by:  AF tapering off, ovulation and implantation.

'Abnormal'spotting can be caused by:  Low pre-O progesterone, estrogen induced breakthrough bleeding (in anovulatory cycles), uterine fibroids, uterine cancer, endometriosis, STDs and BCPs.

I would guess (barring fibroids, cancer, endometriosis, STDs and BCP) that your progesterone levels are lagging a little bit right now...but all my medical knowledge is gleaned from google and some books, lol...so if you are concerned I would get checked, if only to rule out the less pleasant reasons for spotting   GL!

I agree with the pp that it is likely a hormone imbalance. Breakthrough bleeding would have been my guess.  Do you temp?  Even though breastfeeding can cause wonky cycles, I still always get a biphasic pattern eventually and it's nice to know what's happening with ovulation and my luteal phase.  Then if anything seems out of the ordinary I can spot the likely cause by checking out my charts.  Like just recently when I discovered I was pregnant!  LOL!
