question about Poly-Vi-Sol with fluoride for toddlers

Hi

It's prescription based multivitamin drops with fluoride. Was wondering if anyone gives this to their children and see good results. I was also wanting to find out if the vitamins in this brand are synthetic or whole food based ? Thanks so much for reading!

I would be willing to bet they are synthetic.  And please research the idea of giving extra fluoride to a toddler.  Is your water already fluoridated? Have you researched the effectiveness of ingested fluoride?

I had to give Poly-vi-Sol to my son when he was an infant because he was a preemie, and it was nasty, vile stuff.  I certainly would never give it to a toddler, who is able to chew a multivitamin if they absolutely need to.  I definitely wouldn't give extra fluoride.

I too think it is more than likely synthetic - the company that makes it is Enfamil, the formula giant.

I don't think Enfamil does much of anything 'whole foods based' lol.

I would not give that to a kid unless there were no other options - and I think there is almost always another option! There are lots of whole-food based vitamins in both chewable and liquid forms. Why are you giving it? Is it specifically for the fluoride, or for the 'multivitamin' aspect? If we know more what you're looking for, we might be able to give some specific recommendations, but two options for general multis are Animal Parade and Rainbow Light (I think it's Rainbow Light, not positive, but I've seen it recommended a lot on here!) Carlson Baby D drops are a good one for vitamin D and Floradix is good for iron....

My DD's Ped told me I had to get "prescription" vitamins, too, but it turns out that brand is just the vitamins made by a formula company, and the formula company gives Peds pads of paper that look like prescriptions so the Ped can just circle which vitamin they want the kid to take. It's not really a prescription. It's an over the counter vitamin. I tried to give it to her a few times, but it smells vile and she just spit it out. If you want a more whole foods based vitamin, I'm sure there are ones out there that aren't produced by a formula company.

The company that produces Floradix makes a children's multivit in a liquid form that tastes good and is whole foods based. Spendy, but good. I would also be of the anti-fluoride persuasion, but that's a personal choice.

Whoa, I've been giving DD poly-vi-sol since Ped insisted she was probably missing vitamin D (about 14 months), never even noticed it has flouride in it?  Or is there a special type of Polyvisol with flouride?  I'll have to look again when I'm home tonight.  Scary that maybe I've been giving her extra flouride all this time!

We did find Carlson Vit D drops later, which we prefer now, but when DD seems to be coming down with cold or illness I give her polyvisol and it does seem to help.
