Is giving honey ok at first birthday?

I know you shouldn't give honey to babies under one year but I want to make DD a cake that has honey in the batter and icing for her first birthday.  Is it ok to give it to her now?

Yes. The risk with honey is botulism which is extremely rare. Delaying is just to give the baby a better shot at recovery if they should get that rare bad batch.

I think that baby's gut can't break down the spores until after a year, and so becomes colonized with the bacteria that produce the botulism toxin. Health Canada says after a year honey is safe.
