Early Homeschoolers: preschool-1st. Revisiting themes?

Hi all,

Those of you that do a more formal or structured schedule, how often do you revisit themes and lesson plans?  I started writing our plan out for the summer and so many of our lessons I want to redo next year as DD gets older and understands more.  I could easily see how I could build upon my 1 year of lesson plans for years to come.

Just curious what others do.  ;)

We aren't formal or structured but we utilize weekly or bi-weekly nature and holiday themes.  I have revisted themes before and the kidlets have not minded.  This is especially true for holiday themes and themes of things that particularly interest them.  I don't think we can do an "ocean" theme often enough for those two!  Especially since it's always accompanied by trips to the beach and aquarium.

With a few exceptions (such as ocean) I find visiting a theme again in a year works well.  It's fun to build upon what you did the year prior and do different things with the theme you might not have been able to do the year before.  It's also fun to do the same thing and see how it changed.

I also find that if I breeze over a theme quickly then they are perfectly receptive to a more in depth unit later.  I try to read their interests as well.  Sometimes they actually request that we get books on a particular subject and I build a theme around that even if we've already done it.
