Can food allergies cause hourse/raspy voice?

DD2 has had major food issues ever since around 2 months. We're able to kinda pinpoint them all and by 12 months she was doing AWESOME. In Dec we started a gluten trial in hopes of having her tested for celiac, 3 months later and GI didn't feel she was having enough symptoms so decided testing wasn't necessary (what did he know, he wasn't around her every day for those 3 months. She OBVIOUSLY doesn't do well with gluten!) Feeling frustrated we decided to forget about doctors and just go gluten free again. We saw huge improvements immediately but now, almost 2 months later, she is having what seems like some food allergy problems. It's so frustrating! She already doesn't eat any gluten, casein, soy, eggs, or oats.

Well, Sat night I made some quinoa and chickpea stuff and it really bothered my stomach so I was afraid it would bother hers as well (she ate some and we're still nursing). She seemed fine, then Sun afternoon she ate some hummus and broke out in a rash on her face (it was red everywhere the hummus touched her face). Today she is hoarse/raspy, her eyes are red, and she's pooped 3 times (which is a lot for her, she's usually lucky to go once a day) which had a lot of mucous in it.

She's obviously having a reaction here. I guess I'm just wondering if this sounds like IgE or IgG mediated? I'm hesitant to take her to an allergist because I know the testing is not always accurate but I'm starting to get overwhelmed here. We were doing so good before the gluten challenge and now I feel like we're back at square one! Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

how scary! *hug*

this sounds like an IgE mediated response to me. I would seek an allergist's advice with the information you have. It is possible, from your description, that this response is anaphylactic and may require an epi-pen.

was there sesame in the hummus? I understand it is moving up the ranks of top allergens but that is not to say, of course, that this was definitively the culprit.

I hope you find the answers you need.

Thank you so much for your reply! We have an appt with an allergist so hopefully we can get some answers. There was sesame in the hummus and that was my first thought too. Sesame is not something we typically eat so it's hard to say. Needless to say we won't be eating any hummus again any time soon! :p
