My son is rear facing. However, the current strap setting seems really far below his shoulders. When I move the straps up, they seem a tad above his shoulders. Which should I use? The lower level seems too low, but I'm not sure if the level above would qualify as "at shoulder level" or "above".

subbing because I'm having this same issue in our MyRide. They're soo far below her shoulders now, but if she sits up really straight the next slot is right at or even very slightly below her shoulders, but if she slouches down to the crotch buckle then it's above her shoulders for sure.

IMO, I keep them down unless it's causing the seat to fit poorly. For example, at one point in my dd's ss1 the straps started falling off of her shoulders. So then I moved them up even though they were a smidge above.

The way rfing crash dynamics work is that the child will move up the seatback as it rotates down towards the floor. You don't want them to move too far up, which is why the straps are below shoulders to keep them down. Straps being 1/8" above their shoulders is usually not going to cause a problem (the child will still move minimally) as long as there is ample shell above their head.
