Is this it???

Today my midwife advised me to use castor oil, as I am 42 weeks tomorrow. Dh made an awesome milk shake and it wasn't all that bad...ahem...the runs weren't bad anyway. Well, for about the past 4 hours or so I have had regular contractions that are definately more intense than the usual BH. I have some very menstral like pains in my lower back and in my lower uterus. They aren't unmanagable at all but lets just say that if I wasn't pregnant and they were menstral cramps, I would be staying home from work for this, and that has never happened. YKWIM? I'm just wondering how I will sleep through them tonight!

As this is my first time, I'm just not sure if this is it or not. Midwife says we will have to wait and see. This could peter out or turn into the big one.

Oh please let it be the big one!!!
From the looks of things, this may get to be a bit uncomfortable.
Who would have thought??!!

i hope it is, good luck! You should take a nap if you think you are able to. If this is it you will appreciate the extra rest.

I agree. Take a nap while you can. I spent my naptime on the phone and when I wanted my nap it was time to push. Ack!

Good luck!Castor oil took about 4 -5 hours to kick in for me.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. My entire labor felt like severe, severe menstrual cramps, not the textbook description of contractions, with tightening from top to bottom-back to front, so I wish you luck!! It felt so much like menstrual cramps, I didn't even know I was in labor, I thought something else was wrong!!

Sound like a good beginning! I agree with the others, try to get some rest while you can!

Just think - you will be holding your little babe soon!!!

I took castor oil too - try get some rest. If you feel up to it do some walking. That helps get babys head into the right position for birth. Have you phoned your midwife?

Ooooh I'm all excited for you!!!!

Here's hoping you are in the afterglow of birth and snuggling w/your baby by now.

My contractions started the same way--very intense "menstrual-like" cramping. In fact, b/c I was under the impression that they would unbearable, I thought I had lots of time and sent my DH to work. I ended up having most of my labor at home, DH came home, we drove to the hospital and DD came out 2 hrs later. Awesome experience...heck, I could have just stayed home and birthed my DD myself.

Update...

Well, apparently that was it! It turned into a long weekend. Labor began for real Saturday night and ended 50 hours later at 10:30pm on Monday. We have a beautiful baby boy, 9 pounds 15 ounces, 22 inches. I will post a full birth story later but the jist of it is that what began as a homebirth, after laboring for 36 hours at home and contractions stopped esentially, I transferred to the hospital and about 18 hours later I had my baby via c section. Surprisingly, I am not upset about the way my delivery ended up. I gave it more than the ol' college try and I am so happy with my baby. He is the cutest sweetest thing I've ever seen and I'm so in love. I've seen a different side of my husband that makes me love him more than ever. It feels great to be a family of 3!

Thanks for checking up on my and once I get a chance to write it all down I'll share my birth story...it's a doosy!!

Take care everyone!!
I'm sooooo in love!!!!!!!!!!!
