Just got prescribed zoloft..

I know I need to take it. I am so scared. I don't want to be dependent on a drug for my sanity but even more I want to be able to take care of my daughter and function. 

I also am so worried about gaining weight. I sound selfish. 

I guess I am just looking for some "been there, overcame that" kind of support.

BTDT :) Zoloft worked really well for me, I had some weird symptoms and anxiety when I started and when I weaned off 8 months later. Overall it was such a positive experience, I wish I had started taking it sooner...

I've had some side effects, but nothing too major. The only really problematic one is that I often have trouble sleeping. Not full-blown insomnia (usually) but enough to make me too tired at work.

  I've been there, Mama.  It gets better!  FWIW I lost weight on Zoloft.  I hope you are feeling much better very soon!!!

Thanks everyone! I am on day 2 and so far so good. I am so happy I decided to finally take medication. Even if for the time it is placebo, I am feeling much better about it all!

I was concerned about taking it at first, too, but it made my life significantly better and it allowed me to build an awesome relationship with DS because I was finally feeling able to cope with myself and him again.

I didn't gain any weight during the time I took it, but I also didn't lose any. Other than that and headaches early on I didn't have any side effects.  When I weaned Zoloft after 10 months, it was much less worse than I expected, too.

Try not to think about being dependent on the drug, but view the  the drug as a means supporting your ability to lead a life that is fulfilling to you and your daughter. GL.
