When I had my first prenatal visit about 3 weeks ago I was so happy that I could tell the midwife that I hadn't had any bleeding/spotting in this pregnancy. But now things have changed. On Sunday night I saw some pink streaks in my CM when I wiped after going to the toilet. Nothing on Monday. Nothing for most of Tuesday...but then Tuesday night (last night) it happened again. Just a little pink in the CM. I didn't see it when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, but i was groggy and my only light was a night light. This morning it happened again. I'm not seeing any pink in my underwear ever. Just when i wipe after using the toilet, and only mixed in with CM. I put a call in to have a midwife get back to me within 24 hours. Of course I've googled possible causes. I have not had sex since the baby was conceived, so it's not that. I had an ultrasound at 9 weeks so i know it's not ectopic. I really hope there's no issues with the placenta or cervical "imcompetence"...and, above all, boy, do I hope this is not a 'late miscarriage." I'm not experiencing any cramps, I don't think. Sometimes, with gastrointestinal stuff being kinda out-of-whack, I have to take a moment and try to figure out if I'm feeling intestinal pressure/cramping or something uterine. Anyone else go through this at the end of first/begining of second trimester?
"Spotting" at 13 Weeks (Mini Update)
I've heard that this is pretty common, especially if you're only seeing it on TP after using the bathroom and if it's just pink. Sending good vibes your way...hope the midwife calls you back and tells you there is nothing to worry about!
Not that it helps, but I've had significant bleeding this time and everything is still going just fine... no problems with the babies.
Hang in there! Waiting for the call back is the worst part!
Well, I spoke to the midwife late yesterday afternoon. She didn't sound alarmed, which was reassuring. She went through what our options would be...all pretty much intended to make me more mentally comfortable. Pretty much come in and have them listen for a heartbeat (when I was there 3 weeks ago it was too early to hear it) or go for an ultrasound. She said that while it could be a very early symptom of miscarriage, it didn't sound to her like it was. I told her that I guessed I would just do a little wait n' see, and maybe come in for a heartbeat check this afternoon or tomorrow....or just wait until my appt. next Friday. I haven't seen any pink for 24 hours. Sigh... DH and I were talking about it last night and we were kinda thinking maybe I should just go see if they can find the heartbeat since we're about to tell a bunch of our friends this weekend. Part of me is worried, though, that they still won't be able to hear the heartbeat cuz maybe my uterus is still too much hidden behind the pubic bone...and then what? Then I'd have to go for an ultrasound...?
I had some spotting like this around eight weeks. It was nerve wrecking, but things came out fine and we heard the heart beat on the doppler at 12. I was really anxious, even though I had no other symptoms. If it will alliviate stress, it might be worth it to go ahead and peek. I hope things go well and I'm wishing you the best.
Spotting in pregnancy is totally normal. Spotting between 8-10 weeks can often be attributed to a growing placenta, busting capillaries as it burrows into the wall of the uterus. Personally, I've been spotting and bleeding daily since 9 weeks. It's mostly on the TP, but it does gush out from time to time, soaking my clothes if I'm not wearing feminine products. My OB/GYN has checked me out twice, my specialist once, and I've been to the ER once. No one can pinpoint the source of the bleeding and the baby is growing well. The doctor says it's just one of those things and has been working to prepare me for bleeding throughout. That said, while a little pink is nerve-wracking, it's probably just normal spotting.
Our due dates are two days apart, and we've been able to catch the heartbeat with a doppler. I'm also a plus-sized mama with a placenta in the front, so if we can hear my baby, you will likely hear yours. If, for some reason, you can't, the MW or OB/GYN will do an ultrasound. I would suggest you do whatever you need to do to feel peace.
Thanks for sharing your experience, famille_huggins. I went 4 days with no spotting. Then, yesterday morning there was just a teensy bit of pink on the TP in the morning. Still wasn't worried. But this morning after making a BM (no straining involved) I wiped and saw a bunch of red (mixed with CM, so essentially like bright red CM) and two kinda small dark clotty parts. That was 3 hours ago and went to the bathroom just now there was just the faintest bit of light brown when I wiped and some light brown on my pantyliner. My next prenatal appt is in 2 days and I'm kinda debating whether to call the midwife now or just wait (assuming nothing gets worse) and talk to her about it Friday. I also was feeling unsure about whether I was feeling any crampy feelings. I felt something that seemed kinda crampy, but was kinda localized to one side and I thought it may just be gastrointestinal. This is driving me a little crazy. Of course, seeing the bright red and seeing more than I have been I think made my blood pressure wacky because I was trying to put a diaper on DS and had to keep sitting down cuz I felt dizzy. Totally psychosomatic, though.
I posted this in the Chat Thread, but wanted to say here that I did get to hear the heartbeat 2 days ago. The MW found it right away. Very reassuring. She said hopefully this spotting business is over, but if there's just a bit of pink sometime it's probably no big deal. If there's another episode of bright red they'll get me scheduled for an ultrasound sooner than 20 weeks and have the placenta checked over thoroughly.
