Another Bleeding Question

So the only time I've had bleeding in a pregnancy is a week before I had a 15 wk miscarriage. Now I am 9 wks pregnant, and last week a sudden gush of bright red blood soaked my underclothing and a little on my jeans, then I spotted for a day and it went away. I just had a repeat incident of that on monday...and now just brown spotting again.

I'm worried, but not willing to go and get ultrasounds etc in my 9th wk of pregnancy. We have no health insurance and it doesn't make sense to me to spend $600+ when there is nothing the dr's can do at this point anyways.

However I am planning to get an ultrasound later on in the pregnancy to rule out any complications, especially since I have this bleeding.

Does anyone know what it "could" be. I'm trying to rest and take it easy, but that is hard with 3 boys to care for. I've researched a bit and found some info on subchorionic hemorrhage/hematoma, and have also heard that it could signify placenta previa, or a partial tearing of the placenta off of the uterus wall.                      Thanks Kristie

Well, this early in pregnancy, bright red gushes could indeed be any number of things... without an ultrasound there is really no way to know for sure.  If you are keen on just waiting and seeing, you can make sure to log the day and amount of blood each time you have some bleeding and see if any patterns are established (ie, did it happen after intercourse, after strenuous activity, etc...). You can also talk to your doctor to get 48 hour beta quants and see if your numbers are increasing appropriately for a viable pregnancy.  If the bleeding increases and continues to be bright red without cramping, I would recommend medical care.

Well, I know I'm still pregnant because I am very nauseous and tired and miserable. And the bleeding has not increased, it's just the first rush, then spotting for a few days. I am documenting it, and I hope it doesn't continue in this pattern. But I am totally intending to get everything checked out once I'm further along, probably in between 20-30 wks.

My mind just rushes trying to think of what it could be, but not willing to pay for a ultrasound just for my peace of mind, knowing that if there was something wrong there is not much they could do at this point anyways. Thanks for the help though, and I'm praying everything is ok, and actually staying pretty relaxed about it.             ~Kristie

I had a subchorionic hemorrhage at 11 weeks w/ my last. I already knew it was one of two things, I just knew by instinct, SCH or miscarriage. Anyway, I had a doppler and heard the baby's HB right after the initial large gush of blood. Dh insisted I go to the ER. I did go and they found by U/S a large SCH. I bled for 3 days more red and brown until 16 weeks. I never returned for further care in the pregnancy.

Thanks Mamatoabunch for your voice of experience. It helps to know others had the somewhat the same symptoms and everything went ok, tho I know it's no guarantee. Did you feel that you had bled the SCH out over those 3 days and then had no concerns?

I originally was not planning to have an ultrasound or any prenatal care, but because of this bleeding, (only has happened 2x and I'm clear for 10 days now) I am considering having an ultrasound in case it was warning of something more serious.Probably cost about $600 and money is tight so I'm reluctant too but I'll figure it out in the next 10-20 wks. Thanks Kristie

After returning from the ER that night, as I laid in that night, I prayed that God would knit the placenta back to the uterine wall and felt God presence. I knew that night that all would be well. I did take it easier and no longer carried my 6m/o. I also ate more calories to compensate for a possible slightly diminished placenta, but otherwise that was it. I did not abstain from sex though. I was also still nursing by baby, but stopped nursing for a month, but got her back to nursing a month later.
