Breastfeeding and surgery to tie my tubes

I am getting a tubal after this next baby is born (I am currently six months pregnant with my fourth).  I plan to breastfeed this baby exclusively.  I had trouble with supply when I breastfed my other kids.  I think most of that was due to an insufficient diet and too much stress in my life though.  So hopefully I can avoid that issue this time by being better prepared.

Would it be a bad idea to have my tubes tied while still in the hospital after giving birth?  I know it would be more convenient for me, but I worry about missing some of those critical supply building hours so soon after birth.  All my newborns have really liked to nurse 24/7 after their birth.  Maybe it wouldn't be as big of a deal as I'm thinking though and it's better to get the procedure over with?

Anyone have any experience with this?  Thanks :)

I haven't had that experience, but from my post-birth experience I would not want to leave my little guy for one minute, let alone for surgery. I'd wait and have it later if I could. Those first few snuggly skin-to-skin hours and days are so important for both Mama and Baby, and for breastfeeding.

What about the Essure or Adiana procedure? Its an in-office thing that wouldn't leave you laid up for days afterward or take you away from baby for an extended period of time.

Those are good suggestions, but I need to have the tubal instead of those procedures.  I need to have the option of being able to get pregnant through IVF and carry a baby (there is the potential of me being a surrogate for a family member later on).  I know in that situation it seems like I should just do an IUD or something.  But I have had 7 unplanned pregnancies now, most while on reliable forms of birth control.  My family is very fertile and I want to stop worrying about this all the time.  I need a break, a permanent one.

It seems like having the tubal procedure done later would be a better idea, especially because of breastfeeding.  I think I will plan for it that way.

Totally understand :) Yeah in that case I would definitely just hold off and have the procedure later. I'd focus on being well versed in NFP and using condoms in the the interim! (Which you probably already are LOL)
