I'd like some ideas on getting my 20-month old to eat protein, and also a more balanced diet.
It seems like all he wants is pasta & bread. When I lay everything out on his plate he picks what he wants (pasta), and leaves the rest (meat/chicken, veggies). So I started giving him only meat first thing he sits down at the table (when he is the most hungry), and wait till he's had some of the meat/chicken/protein before bringing him the rest of his food. That worked for a while, but now he'd refuse to eat the protein dish I bring him, and ask for something else. That's when I don't know how to respond -- I can't say we don't have anything else because that's not true and he knows that; if I say "eat some of the chicken, and THEN I'll get you something else" he'll start whining and escalating to a real fit. I don't know if it's a matter worth fighting like that, but I do think it's important for him to eat balanced meal and not just pick pasta to eat (the days we don't have pasta he'd eat nearly nothing).
What can I do to get him to eat his proteins now that he's out smart me?
