Book recommendations about homeschooling, please.

I need book suggestions for someone just starting to research homeschooling (and unschooling as well). There are many at my library, and I'd like to know which ones people recommend before I put them on hold. Which ones have you read, which did you like, which would you NOT recommend? And why?

Thanks!

IMO nothing you could read on homeschooling would be wasted.  At worst, you learn that one approach or author's ideas aren't a fit for you.  I would read it all !  I started reading about homeschooling when DS1 was two.  I read John Holt, Raymond and Dorothy Moore, John Taylor Gatto, Linda Dobson, Rebecca Rupp.  I read everything I could find on unschooling, deschooling, Charlotte Mason homeschooling, and Thomas Jefferson Education.  I read The Well Trained Mind.  I read Homeschooling for Excellence.  I read some things I didn't care for at all but still found them helpful because they helped me refine my own ideas.  It's all worth reading.  You don't have to read it all in depth.  You can skim until something makes you sit up straight and want to pay more attention.  At this point I would not narrow your focus to one particular style.  Even if you end up unschooling you may find some ideas in a very structured approach that inspire you...or if you end up very structured you may find great ideas in books about unschooling.  It's all good !

I remember really liking Creative Homeschooling for Smart Families by Lisa Rivero

I really like the book "Trust the Children: An activity manual"

I just finished reading Homeschooling our Children; Unschooling Ourselves. I loved it! I love so many. John Holt books are fabulous. So many good ones, but  my favorites are more towards unschooling.

The Homeschooling Handbook and The Unschooling Handbook (both by Mary Griffith) are great for easy to pick up beginning books.  Breezy to read, still plenty of info.
