Night weaning at Grandma's house?

I am new here and happy to find so many other mamas who are nursing toddlers.  My DS is 24 mo. and wakes every 2 hours or so to nurse.  I am ready to try night weaning him and willing to put up with a few tears, but I honestly don't think my husband can handle it; he can't bear to hear DS cry at all!  In a few weeks, my husband will be out of town and I have been planning to take DS to visit my parents for the week.  It occurred to me that without my husband around to worry about why DS is crying, I could try night weaning, probably following Dr. Jay Gordon's plan.  My question is whether it would be foolish to attempt this at my parents' house (they would be supportive), or if I should stay home and do it here... not that I want to cancel my trip, but don't have many nights without DH around and I really don't think it would work with him here, the way he worries about DS being upset, and always sees nursing as the solution.  He thinks I should keep nursing him until he outgrows it but I feel like I can't keep it up that long... wanting to TTC #2 soon but needing to sleep more at night before I'm ready for pregnancy again.

Thanks so much for any insights you may have!

As a twist... I found it easiest to night wean by having someone else (my mom) take my daughter for the night for about a week. Since I wasn't there to nurse her she didn't feel the need to beg or scream. My mom bounced and patted her back to sleep and it only took a few nights until she was sleeping through the night. She was about 25 months at the time. If your parents or husband would be willing to sleep with DS for a few nights you may find that to be the easiest solution. good luck!

DS was night weaned at 18 months because we moved in temporarily with my DH parents and his boyhood bed was too small for the 3 of us. So DS bedshared with daddy and I slept in his sisters room. He night weaned very easily, and it didn't affect the rest of our nursing relationship - still nursing at 4y 9mo.
