Losing at games

Thread Starter

My almost 5 year old daughter has a terrible time losing games, races, you name it.  She vacillates between wanting to play competitive games, and freaking out crying when someone suggests it.  Wanting to win is the most important thing for her.  She doesn't understand that the game itself can be fun.  I want her to be able to play with other people without freaking out.  How can I help her?

There are lots of awesome cooperative games where there is not really "winning" which might help her see the value in "playing" the game.

I agree. Get some cooperative games where the players work together for a common goal. Then go back to more competitive stuff after she's matured a bit more. I do think its important for children to learn to play a game and lose gracefully. Sore losers soon find no one will play with them.
