How much to put in a bedtime bottle?

If you had to leave DH and LO (11 months) with a bedtime bottle, how much would you put in there?

All she's really had before is little 2 oz bottles to tide her over until I can get home to nurse, the longest I have been away is 2 hours. So just wondering how much she would need if I have to miss her bedtime.

TIA

When my son was 11 months old, he would easily take a 7-8 oz bottle before bed.  Every baby is different, but I would put 8 ozs in just to be safe.  Better to have too much than too little.

Holy cow that seems like alot! It's hard to imagine my boobs make that much. Well off to dig out a big bottle.

I don't know if the PP is talking about formula or BM, but I found that my EBF baby never needed more than 4 oz in a bottle his entire first year.

How about leaving milk for 2 bottles of 4 oz each, and then if your little one only takes 4 oz you can keep the other 4 oz for later?

disclaimer: My DS has never had a bottle, so I really have no idea. Just watching out for your precious pumped milk!

I would freeze two 4oz bags. And then prepare one before leaving and leave instructions on preparing the second one if needed. When DD was BF she never took more then 4 oz.

My seven month old EBF son takes 6 oz of pumped milk at bedtime if his dad puts him to bed.

Well she took about 3 1/2 ounces out of four. I nursed her about an hour and a half later when I got home and she nursed well. DH said she went down happy as a clam.

Wow my kids must be piggies!  My 5 month old will gulp down a 6 oz bottle no problem, and like I said my son was taking 7-8 ozs by 11 months.  Both were/are exclusively breast fed.  Just big eaters I guess!

heck my 3 month old will nurse 4.5-5 oz at times, yours are not the only big eaters!

My DS was on formula at 11 mths after having weaned at 10 mths.  He got a nighttime bottle every night and never got more than 4 oz.  Well, I should say he never needed more than 4oz.  After that he'd fall right asleep just fine.

I think its harder to tell with an EBF baby though.  My 6mth old now gets 3oz bottles when he's at the sitter.  But I nurse him to bed.  If I were to leave him with his dad for bedtime, I'd probably just leave 3-4 oz bottle.

I always store my EBM in 3 oz bags so that if DD needs more she gets it, but like a PP said, guarding my precious milk! Weird how different babies are with bottles.... My DD nurses about 3 - 4 oz from a breast typically every 1 1/2 hours (no wonder she's  almost 14 lbs  at 3 months lol.gif). I left 30 oz (10 3 oz bags) with her for my first day of work just to be safe... and while I was gone for 10 hours she only drank 12 oz!

He is ebf?  Four oz should be fine. Max of five oz, ever, of bm.
