Would you go back to the old OB?

I am seeing a new OB(who is actually old, but I will call him the new ob). Everyone loves him. He came highly recommended by people at ICAN. I drive almost an hour to see him. He really does not seem to believe in prenatal testing. I don't know if he is just that good and can tell if something is going wrong, or if he would miss something if something went wrong. I am 19 weeks pregnant with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss. If something went wrong, I would not want to be at the hospital he delivers at as I do not like that hospital. But, I figure with a VBAC, I won't be at the hospital long. I am lucky he took me as he is not taking new patients. But he ended up doing my first csect because he was the backup doctor that day. He did not cause the mistakes that led to the csect, he was just the guy stuck cleaning up the mess. (my regular OB induced me early due to my being due on the holiday and then I was left with no epidural and pushing for 4.5 hrs passing meconium with the baby having an initial apgar of 2 and later finding out he had brain damage and such from the birth, which is why I do not like that hospital, but that was 16.5 yrs ago). I drive almost an hour to get to his office, but traffic is unpredictable so it takes from 45 minutes to 1.5 hrs usually. His office is connected to the hospital so the hospital will take just as long to get there.

My old OB is obviously not comfy with a vbac nor is she experienced, although she said she would be willing to try. But, sometimes, I worry that the new OB will miss a problem if I have one because he is so in to doing so much natural. I know it is odd to have an OB who is in to doing things natural, but he even does water births and used to oversee a birth center. The old OB's office is 5 minutes from my house as is the hospital. If something goes wrong, I am thinking she would be the one I would want to be with. Honestly though, other than the recurrent miscarriages (which not much can be done about, seem to be age related) and then birth problems caused by intervention, I have never had a pregnancy problem. I have already had vbacs too. I will be 41 when this baby is born so I am worried that maybe I will have problems. But I know if I end up in a csect, I am more likely to have problems.

Who would you go with? Should I switch back to my old OB who is closer by and does testing while pregnant? Or stay with the new OB and just trust?

what about using the new OB and asking for testing? most will do testing if you want to, even if they don't think it's necessary.

That actually makes the most sense. I just felt bad because the OB is the one who got me pregnant (used fertility meds) and ran recurrent loss testing and put me on baby aspirin when all the REs just wanted to do IVF. I got pregnant off a much easier and cheaper route (Femara). Then the OB called me today just to ask me how I was doing as she does not know I am pregnant because I never told her because I am seeing the new OB. It just makes me feel bad.

I'd go to the OB I felt comfortable with. It seems to me that although your old OB is less experienced with VBACs, she is willing to try (always a good thing to hear!), and you prefer her proximity, the proximity of her delivering hospital, and you're comfortable with her practice style (ie, the level of medical intervention she uses). Those all seem like pretty solid reasons to stay with a doctor you're comfortable with.

Why did you switch? Did you just feel like you "should" go to an OB who came so highly recommended and/or had experience with VBACs?
