I had my Paraguard IUD placed about 3 months after my son was born this past summer. About a month after that, I had a seizure that left me unconscious for 4 days and I had to be life flighted to Mayo Clinic where I eventually woke up. A friend told me about the severe problems copper IUDs can cause for some women. The doctors are still stumped as to why I have had seizures. I am wondering if perhaps copper toxicity can cause seizures? Does anyone know?

Copper IUD problems - anemia, unexplained seizures, fatigue
Hi Did you ever find anything out. I used to have seizures then got them treated by a doc focusing on nutrition, he seemed ok with the copper IUD but I winded up having a grand mal and wondering if the copper contributed to it, considering I had been seizure free for 3 1/2 years following a specific diet.
I am not a doctor, nor am I pretending this is the most responsible research, but here is an article that states the following, "The most common toxic elements that trigger seizures include mercury, excessive copper, and perhaps others such as high iron, aluminum, manganese, or even lead or arsenic". It is written by Lawrence Wilson, MD and published in April 2011 for The Center For Development. This was found after a really quick Google search.

I would definitely explore this with your doctor.Â
