Velcro Baby!

Thread Starter

DD#2 is 9 months old and has turned into Velcro baby! Seriously, if I am in sight she has to be attached to me. If I walk into a room and then leave again, she hollers in rage. If DD#1 is sitting between us and she can't get to me, screaming. She just wants to be attached to me All. The. Time. I know it's a stage...she's super-duper active and into everything, is probably getting close to walking or at least cruising, is teething unhappily, is starting to understand words and use sign - so there is clearly a ton going on developmentally and I'm sure it's making her want comfort, safety, security.....

I don't deny her these things, but I work FT and mostly from home while DH is a SAHD, so it's really hard on him! Poor guy - wish he would get the baby love!

Anyone else have a Velcro Baby (TM)? (Not looking for advice...just empathy!)

Totally normal. She just realized that you and she can be separate and that the world is bigger than she thought. The velcro and stranger anxiety/ abandonment fears are completely on target for nine months. Just try to be patient and calm and know that it is a phase.

Oh thank gods there is an explanation & hopefully an end soon! We are dealing with this too. We are moving in a month &i can't even get the house packed. DP is already gone but I hired a mothers helper to help me with DS so I could pack! It's not happening.

Yup, I have one of those, too. Well, sometimes she is a velcro baby, some days she is more independent.. She used to not be down with anyone but mom or dad holding her, which was super stressful because whenever we went to family gatherings, everyone would want to hold her and she would cry and fuss. it was super awkward turning people down, but i hated seeing her so upset.

She is getting better, but somedays just wants to be close to mom. Thank goodness for babywearing, I'd go crazy without it.

That is so neat she is getting signing down. I need to start with my little one.

Completely empathize.  In fact, I was chuckling when I saw your post as I just started called my 5mo "velcro" a couple of weeks ago as she couldn't stand to have me in sight (or sound) and not be attched to me. Especially in the house.  Even in the car, if she is awake, she is screaming because I am not with her. I told dd1 that "velcro" was her little sister's new nickname and she didn't quite get it.  Instead she calls her little sister "elastic" because she confuses it with velcro - it's all sewing stuff to her.orngbiggrin.gif    I guess I'll enjoy it while it lasts, soon she will be older and not want me anymore...

My LO is totally Velcro. I've had such a hard time this semester, it seems like as she has gotten older she wants me even more! She just turned 8 months and is crawling and starting to cruise. But, I totally empathize, her poor daddy. She fusses whenever he picks her up, it breaks my heart. :(
