Help me decipher my test results!

Thread Starter

I have never really recovered from birth....and have had some serious recurring viral infections that just. won't. stay. away.  So I went to have a full physical - I don't know everything she tested me on, but these were the results I got back over the phone with the paperwork on its way to me in the mail.

My blood level for Vit D is 70.5.  She said it is normal and to cut down my supplementation which is anywhere between 2k - 50k depending on if I am actively sick or not.

She is concerned about my cholesterol which the total # is 210.  Triglycerides are 73 (should be 150 or below)

HDL (good) is 36 which she said was too low

LDL (bad) is 159 which she said was too high and that it should be under 100.

Let me say these things:

This is a new doctor that seems pretty mainstream.  We don't really know each other that well yet.

I eat fairly healthy.  We eat full fat products, real food, whole food, organic food.  We try to eat TF as much as possible, though I do eat out a couple times a week (or less).  I didn't really exercise in the winter because I don't do well in the cold and my exercise is running outside, biking, hiking, etc.  Now that the weather is warmer I started running again.

Help me understand this, or please help me figure out what questions I need to ask or tests I should have done.

Thanks!

Personally I would seek out an ND or an alternatively minded MD.

you mention recurring viral infections...are these respiratory or soemthing else? Do you have any other symptoms going on?

Your vit d level is great. Personally I try and stay avove 60. If I were at 70, I would not reduce. I would focus on a maintenance dose.

As for the cholesterol numbers - personally I wouldn't be concerned, but I have a different view on cholesterol than most mainsteam medical folks. Maybe post back when you have the full results since it would be helpful to know what she tested you for. Cholesterol numbers aren't going to be particularly useful when it comes to figuring out why you keep getting viral infections.
