relentless mosquitos!

It's mosquito time again and once again the mosquitos will not leave dd alone sespite what i do.

I used "All Terrain, Kid's Herbal Armor, Natural Insect Repellent but she still got a few bites,

last year i used something like OFF spray for children, but it never worked.

and once she gets a bite she'll scratch it till it bleeds, even though i cover the bites w/ bandaids and use cortisone cream

I also try to dress here in clothes that cover her skin but the only thing that works is denim

but it's allready getting hot here, 85 will be the high today I can't have her in a long sleeve denmin pantsuit all summer...and the monsters bite her through other long sleeved clothes and pants I put on her.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone called cps on me for neglect since it appears as though i do nothing to protect her from mosquitos...

not going outside is not an option....

help!! anyone who have a tasty toddler that's found a bug spray that works (that's not high in Deet) or some type lightweight protective clothing that might work,

heck I'll sew something if I have to if I have a material that will work.

I could have written that. orngbiggrin.gif DD is like mosquito-candy, I swear. And she seems more than usually allergic to the bites, so they get crazy swollen and take months to go away. And she won't stop scratching them. >.<<br />
But honestly, if I got it down to only a few bites, I'd let it go, even if she was getting scabs. I grew up in northern Ontario, BUG CAPITAL OF THE UNIVERSE, and used to get crazy bugbitten all summer long... but magically one year while I was a teenager, I stopped getting welts. I'd just been bitten enough times to build an immunity. orngbiggrin.gif Now I don't react to mosquito bites at all. I am mosquito immune! So a part of me does want DD to get some bug bites, however inconvenient, to help her build her immunity. Even if she built up enough immunity not to get as swollen as she gets now I'd be thrilled.

My pragmatism also comes from the fact that I A) don't want to slather her in chemicals, however natural, for the rest of her life and B) live in a mosquito-heavy area, so reducing contact to zero is just not possible. She's gonna have to learn to live with 'em. :/

We use these

http://insectdefendpatch.com/

And while they aren't the cure all, they do help *some*

I am a mosquito magnet, and I have always been.  I try not to scratch, but I wake up having scratched them in my sleep and I'm covered in blood.

Good luck!  Mosquitoes are evil.  EVIL!

Oh and what about some environmental repellants like those spirals that you burn....or that candle....citronelle!  That's what its called.

ETA- I have scars from when I was in Northern Ontario for 6 weeks (10 years ago) going camping and I would scratch in my sleep.  Darn Northern Ontario and their evil relentless mosquitoes.

Mosquito immunity? I wish! We live on a woodlot, and May through July is just horrible - we barely go outside. This year I'm buying mosquito clothing for us so we can go outside more without leaving home. I have developed a weird reaction to the bites, and instead of swelling up, I get these incredibly ugly veiny spots that last for weeks. DH swells up crazily but they're gone in about 2 hours.

I have no suggestion other than DEET, which we use sparingly, on clothing, not skin. But I don't like it.

what kind of mosquito clothing are you buying? and where can you get it from?

I found some net pants and tops online for kids here http://www.fcsurplus.ca/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=2679

they seem to have a good price

I told her teachers at daycare not to be alramed if she somes in wearing a net suit,

they said at least she's not old enough to be embarrased about it yet....though i wonder if i''ll have a hard time getting her to wear it,

too bad they don't make it in pink or purple w/ sparlkles lol (then i'd have no problem gettting her to wear it)

i'm still wondering if theres a lightweight material besides denim which is not lightweight that the monsters won't bite through...
