Birth Pool Recommendations

I'm having a homebirth in about 2 months, and my midwife rents out her La Bassine pool for a mere $50.

I've heard of Aquadoulas, which are much more expensive to rent and get shipped ($300 and more).

My midwife says she prefers the shape of the La Bassine, and I'm just hoping to get some opinions.  Anyone do some research/have some experiences that could help me decide which way to go?

I have a feeling I'm going to want to be in the water for labor, but maybe not for the birth.   but i don't know.

Thanks!

There have been some fantastic birth pool discussions in the homebirth forum. I know I read every single word when I was deciding on a pool during my last pregnancy! There were lots of opinions on both of your pool options. I opted for the "fishy pool" because I am cheap and didn't have any inexpensive rental options. I ended up loving it.

You can find some of the threads by searching "pool" in the homebirth forum. Here is my favorite thread:

I think I'd jump on the $50 rental if you don't want an inflatable! Good luck!!

I'd jump on that La Bassine.

Just gave birth in a la bassine Monday morning and it was fabulous - I totally recommend!

Very comfortable, supportive sides - all around excellent.

Yes, a great option- no need to shell out a bunch more money for the Aquadoula.  Especially since you never know if you're going to use it!

I also loved the "fishy pool." It was soft and comfy. Before labor, it was just the right height to lean on all all fours and get the weight of my belly off my back. During labor I liked looking at the fish. And the price was right. The one I used I believe was called "Ocean Reef" Kiddie Pool.

I would use what your midwife recommends.  We used a fishy pool at the last birth because we couldn't get the midwives in time and dh had to clean it up himself afterwards.  $50 is not a bad price for a rental at all.

Thank you so much everyone!   From reading and researching, I'm going with the midwife's option - very smart!!
