Anyone Dealt w/ Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (pelvic separation) or Sacroiliac Dysfunction?

LO is about to turn 4 mo and I am still in daily pain from pelvic separation that started at 24 weeks PG and SI dysfunction that started at the birth (extremely long and traumatic OP labor). The best theory is that my pelvis is coming back together not in alignment, causing one leg to be longer than the other which is continuing to hurt my SI which likely became inflamed during 63 hours of back labor. I have been seeing a chiro since 4w PP and physical therapy for the last 5 weeks, but all of my medical team (chiro, PT, OB, PCP) admit that they have never dealt with this before. Anyone been through this or have suggestions?

Yes - with my first I didn't feel anywhere near normal again until he was 18 months old.  I saw a D.O. for mine and they gave me certain exercises to do which helped a lot.

With my last pregnancy I recovered much quicker but I still have to do exercises to line things back up.  Also, after my first I went and had a set of orthodics (spelling?) made for my shoes (they were made specifically for my feet).  It made a big difference as well.

If you haven't already find the book Relieving Pelvic Pain During and After Pregnancy.  There are a lot of exercises in the book that might help you.

Keep looking for care providers that can help you with this. You can find relief.

Best wishes!

I, too, dealt with excrutiating Pubic Symphisis pain from about 20 weeks until delivery. It was milder post delivery, but still very painful until she was about 2 years old. I saw a physical therapist and chiro during pregnancy and up until about 5 months ago(chrio only for that long, PT was about 18 months post-partum). My daughter is now 4 years and 3 months.

I saw a very special chiropractor who focused on visceral work and cranio sacral work. It was physically beneficial and also very relaxing. I highly recommend it!

We are getting ready to try for #2 and waited this long because of the pain with my daughter. I feared that when she was younger, if I experienced the pain again I would not be able to care for her. I still worry about the pain recurring, but am grateful to have the practitioners I found.

My one suggestion would be to seek out a chiropractor who does visceral work. The movements can be very subtle during treatment, but deep and long lasting.

I also got orthotics for my exercise shoes, sleep with a pillow between my knees(side-sleeper), and try to practice yoga regularly(highly recommended by my chiro).

Best of luck in finding relief for this.
