one year old bangs his head

My son is 13 months and for the past few months he has started banging his head on things.  Usually it happens when he is obviously tired or frustrated (e.g., older brother takes his toy away from him), and every once in a while he seems to do it for fun (e.g., what does it sound like if i bang my head against the washing machine?!). 

 

is this anything to be concerned about?  we're planning to to talk to his doctor about it at his next checkup.

I'm sure it would have gotten worse by now if this were the case with your guy, but apparently my sister did that as a baby and it turned out she had an ear infection.

Now that you mention it-- he does have 2 teeth coming through.  That would make sense-- perhaps the pain is making him a bit edgy.

Poor guy.  Maybe he's in pain.  What are you doing for the teething?

nothing specifically-- he is being a bit more clingy so i am wearing him more, nursing him often, etc.  the tooth has really started to come through so i hope this spell is over!  i've also been giving him cold food items to chomp on-- he really likes that.

My son (11 months) does this all the time and he honestly is just doing it cause he thinks its funny! he will accidently his his head on something and them watch me as he does it over and over to get my reaction. Today he kept crawling under the coffee table at my dads and lifting his head up so he hit the bottom edge. He laughs but I try to ignore it to not encourage it.

I would definatly check to see if there was something else up but it could just be he thinks its funny.

According to my mother, I used to throw myself backwards and smash my head on the hardwood floor all the time as a baby, usually out of frustration.

 

Eventually, I outgrew it...although I know it freaked my mom out a bit at the time!
