When to tummy sleep

At what age (or what skills) does sids and tummy sleeping become less of a concern? DS is congested yet again and I notice heactually sleeps if on his tummy. He is nearly 9 months & will be crawling any day now I think.

My pedi told me my DS was okay to sleep on his tummy when he was easily capable of rolling both directions. I think he was around 6 months when he started tummy sleeping - I'd lay him on his back and he'd flip right over. He said he recommended I continue laying him on his back until at least a year, but that basically, if he preferred to sleep on his stomach he was going to do so (what was I gonna do? flip him back over every 5 minutes all night?), and that it was safe. He's 2 years 8 months and sleeps flat on his belly (like an angel I might add!) to this day. :)

Yup, my son's daycare has a very detailed safe sleep policy and their standard is that tummy sleeping is OK once baby can put himself/herself into that position.  DS is the same age as your LO and he has been rolling away after nursing and sleeping on his side sometimes now.
