Driving cross country with a baby and toddler.

So 5 or 6 of us will be taking a trip from Chicago to Portland this summer and with that many its way cheeper to drive than fly. We estimated gas at 5$ a gallon and so it will cost 1700 round trip on the high end. We will have 4-5 adults a 9 month old and a 2 year old.

Tips on driving that far with kids that age? Should we try to drive overnight and stop as much as we can during the day? We are thinking of stoping overnight to sleep just once, in the black hills.

No advice to you on the drive, as I just asked a similar question, but wanted to let you know that Triple A has a gas cost estimator on their site- http://fuelcostcalculator.aaa.com/

Have a great trip!
