Help!  Crash cold remedies please!

Things that are safe for you and baby that I can think of:

Grapefruit seed extract -- 20 drops in a gelatin capsule, twice daily.  Make sure to get the capsule, there no WAY you're choking it down without.  Put 15 drops in a cup of warm water, and if you can stand to, gargle 3 times per day with it.  Tastes like holy hell though, so be forewarned, but this I swear by the GSE!

Bump up the nutrients -- extra C (2000+mg) and extra D3 (8000-10000 IU each day until your symptoms subside).

Raw garlic -- I swallow several (peeled, obvsiouly) cloves in the morning, and again in the evening.  You can chop them in to pill sized pieces, and swallow them with water.

Chamomile tea with raw honey -- tastes good, soothes the throat, keeps you hydrated and energized, and the raw honey can help to fight nasty throat stuff.

Elderberry tincture -- most health food stores will carry some variety of this.  Take a dropper full morning and evening.

Raw cider vinegar -- 3 tablespoons per day.  I usually break that up into two servings.  To me it's easiest to put it in some apple juice (actually tastes great that way).  Or you can put it on a salad, or just quickly swallowed diluted in a little water.

Avoid dairy, avoid processed sugars, drink LOTS of fluids, and try to rest as much as humanly possible.  Good luck mama!!

THANK YOU!

I popped my prenatals, drank some immunity tea, ate some fruit and sucked on some zinc lozenges and thankfully I avoided the sickness meltdown.  I think I got it a little bit but I'll take it!  Phew!

Glad to hear it orngbiggrin.gif

Those would be things that you can do for yourself when you're nursing, too.  All I want to do is take Nyquil and go to bed for a few days when I'm starting to feel crummy, but it's not really an option when you've got a nursling, yk?!

Ack, I can tell you first hand that having a cold during labor/postpartum is THE WORST! The only thing that eased my lingering cough (which, for me, is often the last thing to go after a cold) was a super strong hot tea made with lots of fresh ginger.
