I know this thread is over and done, but wanted to put in my two cents. I came from a family where my mother and grandmother immigrated from starving conditions and taught me never to waste food. Unless it is clearly bad, I don't throw it out. I've never gotten sick from this. I think people in first world countries sometimes take for granted what they have. It's not an issue of having a "stronger stomach;" it's having a stronger mindset and trusting your body won't get sick as easily as you fear. We are built to encounter toxins in the world and survive. I show the same attitude towards my very healthy boy. The more they are shielded from bacteria as they are young, the less chance their immune system has to build up its defenses for later life. Don't eat spoiled food, but don't waste it just because you're picky, either.
