how to find playgrounds online before a trip?

I'm finding myself completely perplexed by how hard it is to find playgrounds to stop along the road during long road trips.

I can use Google Maps to find nearly anything else I need -- a Thai restaurant, a bank, etc. GPS is useful for that kind of thing, too. But playgrounds just don't seem to be listed in any kind of consistent way, I guess because they're not businesses.

I wish Google would start a huge push to get playgrounds added to Google Maps. If every Mothering member put in the 3 playgrounds closest to their house, we'd have a million playground locations in no time!

But really, this was intended as a question. Has anyone found a good trick, website, GPS brand, etc. that is an effective way to find playgrounds? I don't even care about finding GOOD playgrounds -- just a tired old swingset and slide would be great.

Have you tried putting in the name of the city you are starting in and the term Parks and Recreation with the standard google site?  Our city lists the parks and their amenities on the Parks and Recreation website.  Many cities have a visitors center website you can get by using google.

that's what I've always done. If it's a big city, I look at their park and rec info. If it's a small town, I'll often just ask at the library or coffee shop when we stop.
