Psychiatrist in St. Louis

Thread Starter

Can anyone help me find a psychiatrist - a good, non-patriarchal psychiatrist - in St. Louis or the surrounding area?  I have been through sessions with two terrible MD's, one who told me flat out to wean my daughter and laughed at me for extended nursing and the other who, despite years of therapy, is giving me an ultimatum of getting on the couch for intensive therapy or one antidepressant and won't experiment with any other meds.

I'm already seeing a therapist, and I'm just looking for someone to work with me on medication for depression and anxiety.  I'd like someone who can work with me to find a combination of medications that works for me and most importantly, someone who works WITH me and not ON me.

A feminist leaning therapist would be ideal, but not necessary.  Someone who knows about medications that are safe for breastfeeding moms is crucial.  Does anyone know of someone good?  I can't afford the time and money on any more MD appointments only to not click with the MD.

Thanks, in advance, for your referrals.

OP, I'm looking for the same thing.  I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time with it (and that I am too).  If I come across any good information, I'll let you know.  Wish I could be of more help.

My OB-GYN managed my depression meds during my pregnancy and afterwards. His name is Mark Wasserman. He's at Koch Center in Granite City. It's not a garden spot, but Wasserman will give you good care. The  number is (618) 452-3301. Koch Center uses a sliding scale for fees, BTW.

For a psychiatrist, I'd try Mark Freeman or Mark Napier. They have an office in Edwardsville.
