Baby holding breath and passing out

My daughter (turning one today!) has been holding her breath when crying. She passes out briefly (eyes  roll bach, dazed, weak for a few moments after). This has been happening with more frequency and it does usually happen when she's upset after being told no to something (not when hurt).  I've read this is benign but it is scary! Anyone else know anything else about this?

My kids never did this but my pediatrician did mention some kids do this. She said not to worry and it won't hurt them. (to make them selves pass out) They will automatically start breathing again once they pass out.

I would imagine it would be very scary though. And I would think maybe the LO would need help dealing with her strong emotions and not be ignored during these episodes. Maybe helping her learn other coping skills such as deep breaths, cuddling, "using her words" (if she has any) like "i'm mad" , etc. Nursing seems to help us calm tantrums.

My partner did this when he was a toddler.  Apparently, he went through a few babysitters who were too nervous to take care of him because of it.  He's fine now, but he still does have a temper.
