Need Resources about pain during Circumcision

Hello fellow Intactivists,

I am doing a informative presentation at a local birth/parenting resource group 

here in Oklahoma.

I have talked with many people that witnessed their sons circumcisions 

and watched the videos on youtube of circumcisions,

but I need a simple and reliable resource citing all the techniques for pain control and their effectiveness.

I've had a mother of 3 sons say the pediatrician used a topical cream and the baby did not cry at all.

I've heard people say the penile nerve block removed all feeling

and others say the pain can never be eliminated.

I also need the most recent statistics about the incidence of circumcisions performed without any pain control.

Let me tell you, I went into this project wanting to provide balanced information on the topic

and I have left this project a flaming intactivist.

Here is a link to a 1997 article from the Journal of the American Medical Association, which concluded that 'ring block' provided the most effective anesthesia:

You can find more recent articles by doing a search of 'circumcision pain' (no quotes) at pubmed.gov, but the article abstracts I saw were all slanted towards concluding that circumcision is now totally painless, or promoting a particular propriety circumcision device as being quicker and easier to operate (and thus less distressing on the patient).

search terms in quotes I think you should include the study by "Anna Taddio" that showed increased pain reaction to vaccinations in circumcised children... even the ones who had pain relief showed a reduced tolearnce to pain. I also think that you should use the word "cortisol" in searching as measuring the stress hormone cortisol is currently how they measure pain or the effectiveness of pain relief. There was also a "pain study" which was "halted" due to the extreme trauma they were measuring... that doesn't mean they stopped circumcising boys- they just stopped quantifying the harm they were inflicting.
