Is this her trying to tell me she doesn't need naps anymore?

DD will be 2 in a little over a month and I thought I had at least another half year of afternoon naps...Now I am not so sure.

For the past 4 days or so she has really really FOUGHT against going down for a nap. 4 days ago she went without a nap at all and stayed up until 7:30 at night, she normally goes to bed at 8 and falls asleep soon after so it wasn't far off...

Again today, NO NAP...I spent an hour laying with her, nursing as she wanted and she was just bouncing around the bed (we cosleep with a sidecarred crib) and singing and playing with her stuffed puppy and bunny... She is sitting next to me right now as I type watching youtube videos of bunnies playing (she is obsessed with bunnies at the moment as we just had a baby cottontail we rehabbed for a several days)...

I really didn't think the no nap thing would come so soon but it has been progressively harder and harder to get her to sleep for a nap and she only sleeps for 40 minutes or so.

Is this her telling me she really doesn't need naps anymore? I WANT her to nap still but I won't force it on her, it's not like I could force her to sleep anyway we don't do CIO...

It seems way too early, she isn't even 2 yet, but it's been 4-5 days of this pattern so I am thinking maybe I should just trying not putting her down for the next few days and see how it goes?

DD1 did this right around 2 too. What worked for us was to change our nap routine. Now we take her for a walk in the stroller at nap time with a bottle, she falls asleep and I move her into her bed. She still naps the same amount of time as she used to, but for whatever reason she stopped being able to fall asleep at home.  Just lately, at 2.5 a couple of weeks ago, she's started not falling asleep on our daily stroller walk and so sometimes doesn't nap, but it's still better if she does.

Hmm,

thank you for the reply...DD will not EVER stay asleep if I have to move her. It has never ever worked, a total PITA but she is a light sleeper to begin with.

I was actually pretty pleased after our second no nap day in a week yesterday. I put her down to bed a little early...around 7:30 and she was OUT in 10 minutes. She sleep until shortly after 10 without a peep which is really good for her. I think if she doesn't want to nap I won't push it because frankly it makes bedtime A LOT easier on both of us. She just passes out quick and sleeps more deeply than usual.

I think if it's working then go for it. It certainly makes getting out to do things in the day easier!  Our DD goes to bed earlier, and also really easily, if she doesn't nap, but she's pretty grumpy in the late afternoon/early evening, and she just wakes up earlier in the morning. With a nap she'll sleep 12 hours in a 24 hour period, and without, she only gets about 10ish. So, for us, it's still better to try for the nap every day even if it doesn't always work. BTW, we used to leave her asleep in the stoller for the whole nap, but all of a sudden around 2 she started sleeping way deeper (started sleeping 10 hours straight at night too! woot woot!) and now she can be moved easily so it's easier not to carry the stroller up the stairs into our apt.

apparently she needs naps as my arm is pinned beneath her right now while she lays on couch with me and she is out...eyesroll.gif
