Hooked on soy yogurt...should I cut her off?

DD1 (3.5) had a mild milk allergy that she has since outgrown, but from around 18 mos, she would eat 1 or 2 of the Stonyfield Farms Organic Soy yogurts (those small 4 oz. baby/toddler size cups) per day.

Now she eats organic cheese regularly and has other dairy products too.  But we have been unable to get her to switch to a cow or goat yogurt & because of reading some negative reports on the consumption of soy products, I am wondering if it's something to be concerned about.  I originally thought that organic soy was ok, but it sounds like any soy that isn't fermented is being questioned?

She is a picky eater to begin with & is allergic to eggs so when it comes to breakfast, all she wants is her yogurt.  She will sometimes do toast, sometimes cereal, but mostly-she wants that darn yogurt.

First, we tried the other Stonyfield Farms 4 oz cups that look the same as the soy (original yo baby), but they don't have strawberry (the soy comes in a 6 pk of 3 peach & 3 strawberry).  Today we tried to give her the Yo Kids but she immediately rejected it because it is clearly not the same container.  I tried to explain that the company was using a different picture and she actually said, (DH was standing right there & heard it too) "Mommy, sometimes kids don't like it when something changes."

I then tried to empty out 1 of the soy strawberry yogurt containers & fill it with the regular strawberry yo kids & she took 2 bites and then said "it tasted funny and she wanted a new one".

WWYD?

Anyone have any feedback, knowledge, thoughts about a 3.5 yo consuming organic soy yogurt everyday?  Something to think about, worry about?  Something to put a stop to immediately?  Not a big deal probably?

Thx!

I think you may want to look at her protein intake...if she isn't eating eggs, she may be really wantinig the soy in the morning because of the protein.  Is there another protein source that could be added? It might stem her cravings for soy.  DD couldn't have milk at first either but she didn't like soy, liked rice milk better.

From what I have read (albeit that isn't much), the soy intake has to be HUGE before its an issue.  But still, I would try other proteins, maybe peanut or other nut butter to see if that could replace?

My son has had soy yogurt or soy milk almost every day since he was a year old. He is as healthy as can be. I have done my research and believe that all foods deserve moderation, including soy, but I have not been convinced that it should be avoided. He consumes some form of soy daily but eats a variety of other foods throughout the day as well. (Though we avoid all animal products because we're vegan).

My son also loves SoDelicious Coconut Milk yogurts as well. They are a bit more pricey but you could always give that a try to switch it up a bit, especially if she's not too keen on the dairy yogurt. But I think your daughter will be fine having one or two of those little cups per day.

Thx Rani.  She actually is a protein fiend.  She mostly eats the yogurt, cheese, meat, poultry, peanut butter and then some whole grains.  Her fruit/veggie intake is our problem right now.  She will only eat strawberries, sometimes yams, so she gets a serving or so of a fruit/veggie blend juice & a high quality vitamin.nn

I think a huge part of it is that she became a creature of habit as a toddler for that particular packaging.  I think the consistency might be a little different too but we might be able to get past that if we kept trying to switcheroo.

We started a new rule this AM that after 1 4oz container, if she is still hungry (she usually is) she can have several other choices, but not another yogurt.

Thx Shadow Moon!

Maybe we will try to put some Coconut milk yogurt in one of the soy containers to see.  She literally refuses to try any other yogurt.
